I really like surgery. I like being in the OR and I like the immediate fix that surgery provides. Have a breast tumor - cut it out. The problem I've found is I don't like surgeons. Most of them (by no means all) that I've encountered are intense, driven people who have little regard for the different opinions and priorities of others. On no other rotation have I felt like I have had as much time wasted as these two months on surgery.
They are also dogmatic and resistant to change and move into the modern era of medicine and medical education.
That being said the breast surgeons at MD Anderson are completely awesome. Drs. Hunt, Meric, and Lucci are wonderful mentors and I have enjoyed what they have taught me.
